Although some of its important main street structures were lost to modern development, Gananoque retains some remarkable historic buildings, which can be enjoyed on a pedestrian walking tour. The Arthur Child heritage Museum of the 1000 Islands is the centrepiece of the historic 1000 Islands Village, a replica of nineteenth century architecture. here you can experience the wonders of the Frontenac Arch then travel in the footsteps of the First Nations, Early Settlers and Fur Traders and the Military Combatants of the War of 1812. Step back in time into the Golden Age of Castles and Cottages and get lost in the dreamy past of a very special time in the 1000 Islands.

A MOST HISTORIC PLACE TO EXPLORE

Downtown Gananoque boasts many magnificently restored Victorian, Edwardian, and Georgian buildings and houses, and today it's architecture looks just as it would have 100 years ago. Athlone Inn, built in 1877 for Charles Leopold Parmenter, co-founder of the Parmenter and Bulloch Rivet factory.

Auberge Victoria Rose Inn an 1872 landmark, was home to William Byers, first mayor of Gananoque.

Beaver Hall was built for Captain Chrysler, commander of one of the first steamboats to sail this part of the St. Lawrence River. A unique Georgian-Victorian mansion, constructed in 1826 and renovated in 1870 with a metal Mansard roof and 13 dormers.

Gananoque Inn occupies what was originally the Gananoque Carriage Works, built in 1860. In 1896 the carriage works was converted to a gilded age grand hotel.

Gananoque Post Office- First Post Office Building erected in 1888 with stunning architecture.

Gananoque Clock Tower, a 28-metre ornamental clock tower, built in 1903, a gift from a well-to-do citizen.

Gananoque Train Station, built by the Grand Trunk Railroad in 1901 and was later re-named Gananoque Junction, thus the railway ran from Gananoque to Gananoque Junction. The other stop was at an umbrella shelter on King Street in Gananoque built in the 1880's.

MacDonald House/Gananoque Town Hall was built in 1831, by successful businessman John McDonald. Bequeathed to the town in 1911, the building has been used for courts, jails, library, council meetings and public offices.

Built in 1888, Manse Lane is a typical example of late Victorian middle class house construction. Despite its name, Manse Lane was never used as a Manse - it was a private home associated with several prominent citizens. The name is derived from its location at the corner of Stone Street and Manse Alley.

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church was erected in 1854 on land donated by The Honourable John McDonald, and formally opened in 1855. A wooden spire was added in 1875, and in 1886–87 the church was enlarged. It features over a dozen stained-glass windows. Church memorabilia is displayed.

St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church amajestic Romanesque-style limestone church was built in 1889, following blueprints for a parish church in Ireland.

Sleepy Hollow Bed & Breakfast built in 1905. Architectural features include tin ceilings, a stained-glass window and a grand oak-panelled staircase.

Thousand Islands Playhouse built in 1909 for the Gananoque Canoe and Motor Boat Club. Additions in 1921 included "the largest dancing floor of any club in Eastern Ontario."

Trinity House Inn built in 1859 and features bricks imported from the district of Trinity in Scotland. The house has always been a private residence for doctors and housed their practices.
