Beaches & Swimming
1000 Islands swimming is completely different from anywhere else in the world. Our pristine clear waters are clean and exceptionally clear. The beaches can range from all granite rock formations that are incredibly therapeutic to relax upon or explore, to beautiful sandy beaches with emerald green waters. There are many different places to swim in the 1000 Islands, but are only accessible by boat. Be sure to have your swimsuit, as a dip in the St. Lawrence River is a must.
WHERE TO SWIM
In Gananoque, enjoy an afternoon in our beautiful Joel Stone Park on the shores of the St. Lawrence River with deep water swimming dock and sand beach. Take a swim, or just relax and float while you take in the beauty of the river and islands all around you. Joel Stone Park is located to the east of the Municipal Marina and visitors can also enjoy watching the boats meander by as they enter and leave the harbour.
To the west of the Gananoque Marina is Rotary Beach, a small beach area that can be accessed by Bay Road. Not just for swimming, this is a great spot for visitors to launch kayaks with parking is readily available.
To the east of Gananoque along the 1000 Islands Parkway you will find a multitude of parks and parkettes with beaches to swim, relax, and picnic.
