Fishing
The 1000 Islands region has a wide diversity of habitat and species of sport fish that cover the gamut of most fresh water fish in the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes. Because it is such an enormous body of water, fish in the 1000 Islands are bigger, and there are trophy size fish in every category compared to what you might find in smaller lakes and streams. Bass, pike, pickerel, and the mighty Muskie all call the St. Lawrence River home.
GIANT MUSKIE
There is a lot to angle for, since are 20 sports species in the St. Lawrence River; you will find Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Walleye, and the Great Muskellunge (Muskie) all just waiting for your lure and bait. Gananoque is steeped in the tradition of legendary Giant Muskie fishing; the largest caught was 65 lbs! The hottest spot to chase Muskie is 40 acre shoals just off the coast of Gananoque where you will find a bounty of them. Come and take a shot at a world record fish!

1000 Islands Bass Open
September 29 & 30, 2012
Gananoque and the 1000 Islands will host the 1000 Islands Bass Open, a team event on the beautiful St. Lawrence River. Bring your gear to search the waters for Small and Large Mouth Bass with the goal being the total weight of 10 fish over 2 days (five fish per day). Blast off at 7 a.m. sharp on Saturday and Sunday. Weigh in Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. with awards ceremony to follow weigh in.
