Hi! My name is Maggie, and I’m going to tell you about the awesome trip me, my sister, and my father had this weekend. My father was going to write about some of the cool things to do in Gananoque, and he decided to bring me and my sister along with him. We had a wonderful trip!

We got to our hotel Thursday, June 22, in the evening, and the first thing we did was visit the playhouses. There are two of them. One is called the Firehall Playhouse and the other is the Springer Playhouse. We stopped by the Springer Theater. The Gananoque playhouses are old buildings. One was established in 1909 and the other in 1913. They put on plays there. Both buildings sit right on the water, and even though there are some bugs, they are very fun to see plays at.

The next day, Friday, June 23, we got up bright and early. We had to be at 1000 Islands Kayaking at 8 a.m. But, since it was raining, we went on a speedboat tour instead. The speedboat tour was just as fun as kayaking would’ve been. We climbed into the boat along with a few other people. We first just toured around, looking at all the 1,000 islands, and some of the cottages and boat houses. It was lots of fun being on the boat! Later, we stopped at McDonald Island for a short 20-minute hike that wasn’t very tiring, and then had a delicious snack of breads, dips, fruit and juice. We ate at a small shelter, keeping us dry from the rain. From there it was only a 5- to 10-minute boat ride back to the docks. I had a super fun time with my family. I hope we can go back!

Next up were the helicopter tours. I didn’t actually go in a helicopter, but my sister said it was even steadier than being on a plane. There were two helicopters so the tours passed quickly. The tours were also only 10 minutes long. But from the cool pictures my dad took with his camera, they must have gone pretty high up! While I was waiting for my father and sister to return from their helicopter tour, I ate one of the sandwiches they had put out for lunch. And when they came back to join me, my father told me how amazing it was. My sister wasn’t even a bit scared!

After that, we went back to our hotel for a few hours, but not for long. At around 5:30 p.m., we got ready for our dinner cruise with Gananoque Boat Lines. The cruise was from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Me and my sister dressed up and my dad put on a nice shirt and pants. We left around 5:30 p.m. and drove for a few blocks, then walked the rest of the way. We got there right on time. We got to wear leis! The whole night was super fun. We had dinner first—salad, pasta, salmon, vegetables, baked potato, bread and carrot cake—then walked around a bit and hung out. We went outside on the deck, even though it was damp and cold. There was even a live band, and dancing. I had an great night!

The next day, for our very last activity, we got to go zip-lining at Skywood Eco Adventure Our friends had just arrived from Toronto the previous night and we invited them to come along with us. Zip-lining at Skywood was so fun and thrilling. There were two beginner courses, two intermediate courses, and one beginner course. There was also discovery courses. One of our friends wasn’t tall enough for the adventure courses so she took the discovery course. She still had lots of fun, though. My sister, my dad, my friends and I went on the beginner and intermediate adventure courses. It was really high up and I got a bit scared but it was definitely worth it. Overall, we had a wonderful family weekend in gananoque! You and your family should come and visit soon.
