Break out your skates and head down to the Gord Brown Memorial Canada 150 Outdoor Rink in Gananoque for some free family fun! With an alternating schedule of free public skating and shinny hockey, the rink offers the perfect opportunity for a leisurely skate or getting into some friendly competition with a pick up game. Head out for a hike
One thing is for certain here in the lovely 1000 Islands: Mother Nature has given us a beautiful playground! Lucky for us that the area has a number of hiking trails that are open year round to get out and enjoy a glorious walk through nature. Bring along some bird seed and try to feed the chickadees or pack a frothy thermos of hot chocolate to enjoy at the top of a lookout point!
Enjoy a meal out on the town
Spending time with family fills your heart, so why not fill your stomach at the same time? With the lifting of the provincial lockdown, many of our fabulous local establishments have returned to offering indoor dining. Tuck in to some casual dining, spice it up by visiting a new place, or simply indulge in a sugary treat. Still not ready to eat out? No problem – lots of local restaurants also offer take out services as well so you can enjoy a delicious meal at home as a family!
Snuggle with some donkeys
Visit the adorable herd of donkeys at the Berry Homestead Farm out in Lyndhurst. The perfect farm experience for all ages (free for children under the age of 4), learn how to care for donkeys and get the chance to get up close and personal with each one for a pet and snuggle! Go for a trail ride at Fort Garry Stables
Head out to Fort Garry Stables for a horseback trail ride through the snowy rural landscape near Lansdowne, Ontario. These trail rides are beginner friendly and go through all the basics of horseback riding, plus with their stable full of gentle giants you’re sure to have a new friend by the end of your adventure. Step back in time at the 1000 Islands History Museum
The 1000 Islands History museum will be open for you to learn all about the history of Gananoque and the 1000 Islands region. With a number of permanent exhibits displaying the geological, industrial and social history of the area it’s the perfect place to not only enjoy the day with family but learn something at the same time!
