With the much anticipated lifting of some of Ontario’s COVID-19 restrictions, one of Canadians’ favourite summer pastimes is finally able to open up on June 11th: patios. While there are still protocols in place to ensure everyone’s safety as we move forward (please refer to the Ontario Reopening framework: here), you will now be able to sit outside at a local establishment, enjoy a crisp cool beverage, indulge in some delicious food and soak up some of that glorious sunshine. The 1000 Islands has its fair share of fabulous patios to enjoy this summer, so be sure to check out the amazing places below to make the most of patio season while it’s here! Please be sure to check with the individual establishments to confirm hours, availability and safety procedures – and remember that those restaurants that don’t have a patio are open and available to order takeout! *Note: some images depicted below were taken prior to COVID-19*

1000 Curry

The 1000 Islands region’s destination for the finest, authentic Indian cuisine. Bursting with complex flavours, the menu consists of a variety of classic dishes with both vegetarian and meat-eater options to appease all palettes. Their patio is limited in size, so be sure to call ahead to ensure that they are able to seat you.

Anthony’s Restaurant

With a menu jam packed with Italian and Canadian classic dishes, Anthony’s Restaurant is a great spot to score some delicious comfort food. Located right downtown Gananoque, it’s the perfect spot to stop and enjoy a little break and enjoy the hustle and bustle of small town Gananoque.

Boat Shop Café

Located right next to the water, the Boat Shop Café, owned and operated by the Thousand Islands Boat Museum, offers a small patio with fabulous views of the St. Lawrence. The shop offers coffees, teas and lattes to enjoy in the morning on the patio, or after a day of exploring you can sit back and enjoy something stronger. While you can’t score a full meal, they do offer a variety of goodies and snacks to indulge in with your choice beverage.

BUSL Cider

Cider lovers rejoice! BUSL Cider in Mallorytown offers flights or pints of their delicious, handcrafted ciders that you can enjoy out on their deck or while lounging on Adirondack chairs overlooking their orchard. Their variety of unique flavours will leave you refreshed and with convenient bottles available for take-out, you can bring your favourites home with you!

Cornwall’s Pub

With sweeping views of the St. Lawrence River, Cornwall’s Pub in Rockport offers one of the best spots to enjoy scenic sights while enjoying your meal. Their classic pub menu features a variety of dishes that are sure to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Only interested in getting drinks? Check out their Tiki Bar located on the point – offering stunning views of the water it’s the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day.

Cousin’s on King Bar & Grill

Donnelly’s on the River

It makes for the perfect spot to enjoy a meal, some drinks, and the perfect summer weather!

Gan Brewing Company

Grab yourself a taste of local with some pints on the patio at Gan Brewing Company. Located right downtown Gananoque, their rustic patio tucked along King Street is the perfect place to indulge in some locally brewed craft beer. With a selection of Gan Brewing staples and some seasonal specials, treat yourself to a flight to taste them all or select your favourite brew and enjoy a pint. No matter which way you choose to enjoy it, you’ll be happy you did.

Graydon’s Restaurant

The Ivy Restaurant

Found along the Thousand Islands Parkway, the Ivy Restaurant boasts a gorgeous waterfront patio and the option to boat right up to the restaurant. After your meal and drinks, stroll along their beautifully maintained grounds and enjoy an ice cream at the Coach House.

Laverne’s Eatery

A flavourful menu that features locally sourced foods wherever possible, Laverne’s Eatery is a must visit for any time of the day. From fresh brewed coffees, teas and breakfast pastries to spicy tacos and smoked ribs, their menu is to die for and features amazing vegetarian options. Their newly renovated patio is the perfect oasis in downtown Gananoque – offering privacy and a plethora of gorgeous summer blooms right off King Street.

The Maple Leaf Restaurant

While the patio at the Maple Leaf Restaurant is not the biggest (be sure to call ahead to ensure they can seat you), their menu is chock full of authentic Czech dishes that are sure to knock your sandals off! With options like schnitzel, spaetzle, goulash and some Canadian classics, their selection is bound to leave you with a full belly and plans to visit again soon.

Moroni’s Restaurant and Sports Bar

On King Street in Gananoque you’ll find Moroni’s Restaurant with their quaint, fenced in patio tucked in beside their restaurant. Located just a hop, skip and a jump away from the shoreline and Joel Stone Park, the Purple House is a must try while in the area.

The beautiful shaded garden patio at Riva is the perfect place to chill and unwind after a long day in the sun. For those looking to dine they have a tented dining area and a menu full of delicious Italian dishes, including pastas, woodfired pizzas, and antipasti boards. For those who are just looking to have a beverage on their patio, there is also the option of sitting around one of their many firepits and relaxing in Adirondack chairs to enjoy your vino, cocktail or beer.

The Stonewater Pub
